Is There Dog Poop In The Brownies?

Gross! Ewwww! Why would I even ask that?! Well, there is an modern time “fable” that talks about it.

The kids want to see a movie that has “just a little” violence, “just a little” sex, “just a few” references to the Lord’s name in vain. It’s “just a little”, so it shouldn’t hurt anything, right?So the dad bakes brownies with “just a little” dog poop in them. After he tells the kids what he’s done, they won’t touch the brownies!! Go figure – “just a little” hurt the whole thing!

I am struggling with worldly “dog poop”. I watch shows I know are not glorifying to God. I listen to music that is not glorifying too – oh, not “really bad stuff”, not ME! Then I sit and justify what I do as I talk to my Christian friends and family about this show or that show… and it feels good that I’m “with it”! I mean, there’s only a “little bit” of premarital sex in this show, and there’s only “some violence” in that, right? I tell myself I’m being prudish when I think about not watching “Gilmore Girls”, “Supernatural”, “24″… shows that are currently popular. And, when I discuss it with other believers, it just sounds so legalistic to feel that way. So, I continue to struggle with this nagging feeling (can you say Holy Spirit?) that I shouldn’t be doing these things. And I continue to fear looking legalistic if I do stop watching. But, here is what the Bible says about it:

Philipians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

James 4:4 – You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

1Jn 2:15-16 – Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

So there really shouldn’t be any struggle. But there still is! I covet your prayers on this as I continue to work through it.
