Well, today has been extremely wet. We were already wet because we are thawing from last week’s 8″ of snow - but today it rained, and rained, and rained somemore! It makes for nice, green grass; but it also makes for a problem for us.
Our land slopes down toward the house (hey, it’s 85 years old!!) and, with the ground so saturated, we came to a point where all water was rushing (like a stream) toward the house, under the garage door and into the basement! What we ended up with was a mess.
We must have made quite a spectacle - my two kids and I out in the pouring rain moving buckets of water to the top of the yard and dumping it into areas that weren’t saturated. Sean sandbagged for me - damming up the water coming toward the garage. Crysta swept (yes, swept!) the puddles in the yard UP to the unsaturated areas. And I filled bucket after bucket with the water at the garage door so it too could be dumped in the upper area of the yard.
We are all now warm and dry. We’ve been fed and towels that were soaked are now being washed and dried as I type. We’ll survive - we always do. And I’m sure we’ll have to do this again ….. probably tonight when the next batch of heavy rain hits.
I covet your prayers for patience for me and health for all of us as we stand in the rain like crazy people!!
…….ah, Spring!!
In His Glory,
-R
