Let’s Hear It For The Boys!!

Tomorrow is a MONUMENTAL occassion! Tomorrow, beginning at 4:17 a.m. and then repeating at 4:25 a.m. is the 19th anniversary of my boys being born. Sean (b/w photo) was first - although he was not supposed to be. The entire pregnancy he had been called “Twin B” by the doctor, because Devon was bigger and would, in all certainty, appear first. But, because Sean had been soooo busy inutero, Devon literally moved out of the way and allowed Sean to come out first. Devon then proceeded to roll right into the middle of his new found space, spread out and “chill” for a few before making his appearance. It was sure interesting to watch on the ongoing ultrasound. (Yea, for some reason when you are thirty and having twins, they consider you “high risk” - go figure!!)

So, tomorrow we will see the guys “come of age”. I don’t expect it to be all that much different than any interaction I have with them today. They both work tomorrow, and Devon has play practice after work. And, at this age, chances of seeing either of them at the same time for more than a minute or two is quite a challenge. None of that matters though. Tomorrow I’ll give my happy birthday hugs to each of them - and they’ll roll their eyes and “bear it” to humor me! I mean, after all, they are MEN now, right? They’ll open their gifts and thank us. We’ll sing to them - even if it is individually. I may even try to get a “pinch to grow an inch” in - but they are pretty darn fast!

I know, to some, this will sound just awful! How can we not make a big deal out of this? Well, nothing will make it any bigger than it is. My babies are growing up. God willing, this is just one of many birthdays we will have an opportunity to share in together. In our family, the lack of hoopla doesn’t make it any less important. They know both the importance of the day, and we have tried to be certain they know their importance in our lives. The daily celebration of that importance is more than any once a year thing we can do.

Happy Birthday, Guys. I love you!!

Mom :)
