The play Devon is starring in opened last Thursday. The family went to the Wednesday night dress rehearsal. We love watching Devon act - he is quite good.
The play is nothing to write home about. As a matter of fact, it is poorly written and does not flow at all. And the casting is awful. Devon is playing a 35-year-old RAF officer. His counterpart is my age (I’m 49) and is playing a 30ish woman who is raising her child alone while her husband is off to war. There is a perfectly good 35-year-old guy in the play, but he doesn’t sing and his British accent wasn’t up to snuff for the director…. so, he is playing a 19-year-old college student. (That, by the way, is what Devon is in REAL life!) All of that aside, the cast does a wonderful job at what they have to work with. Their acting is great, their lines are delivered well and all-in-all you can really tell these people have invested in a relationship that pulls it together. Because I’m his mom, I would shell out the $15 to go see him again, if he wanted me to (which he doesn’t!) - but I would not recommend the play to anyone without having a “Comp Ticket” available to give to them. It really is that bad.
But, again, my hat’s off to all the players in this cast. They were excellent - and excited about their roles.
That’s it…. ta-ta for now…
