My mom has officially begun her treatments for colon cancer. She was diagnosed in mid-December and she started treatment this Wednesday.
Mom is on a combined treatment of radiation 5 times a week and a 24 x 7 drip of 5FU, which is a chemo-drug pumped slowly through a port. This chemo is used in conjunction with the radiation to enhance its powers. The plan is to shrink the tumor, kill the pre-cancerous polyps, and remove a small section of her colon in order to remove the chance of radical cells staying behind.
We are all very at peace with the plan as it has been laid out. While Deanne, mom’s oncology nurse, says there are 3 scenarios that “count as success”, we are praying for the total removal of all cancerous cells. We will, however, take whatever God’s will is in all this. I think that’s where the peace is coming from. Okay, okay, I KNOW that is where the peace is coming from!
