Here’s the thing about HEROS.
I’m a bit of a sci-fi fan. Well, actually, I’m a bit of a Nathon Fillion fan, and he just happens to be in a number of things sci-fi. He’s also involved in a number of community “projects”.
Two of his projects are pretty kewl, imho. One is in conjunction with a British artist named Martin Firrell. Martin is an artist of words. He is well known, in London, for his public displays of words. Hard to explain – google him, or go to his MySpace page to see what I mean.( www.myspace.com/martinfirrell ) Anyway, the project is called HERO. It is word art about what a true hero is. His firstart subject is Nathan Fillion. All very interesting. You can see what this project is all about at www.martinfirrell.com/supersecretthingy.html
The other project is called Kids Need To Read. This is in conjunction with sci-fi author P.J. Haarsma. For each book package purchase (info on the website), all profits are used to purchase books for libraries in low-income schools. The book is called “Softwire – Virus on Orbis 1″. It’s not a hugely complex book. It is a good read. (No Harry Potter, either in size or complexity) If you are a sci-fi fan, or have one in your family, I would ask that you consider purchasing a package. You can also do straight donations. Here’s the website – take a few minutes to check it out…… http://www.kidsneedtoread.org/
On another Hero note, I was pleased, and touched, to see that my almost 15-year-old has me listed as one of her heroes on her MySpace page. Made me very happy.
Have a great one.
