This weekend was a great weekend in football. We are still in watch mode to see where The Ohio State University will shake out in the conference, Tennessee is going forward and Mizzou beat number 2 ranked Kansas….. which can only help our Scarlet and Grey!
The Tennessee game was exciting - although nerve-wracking. I love an overtime game - in college football the rules of OT make it the most exciting AFTER the second overtime. With the third OT, it becomes mandatory for the teams to try a two-point conversion when scoring a touch down. There is nothing to get you off your seat quite like a conversion - exciting stuff! The other big “excitement” was when UT had a personal foul called in OT - after the ref had explained there were NO penalties in OT when an obvious face-mask was called on Kentucky! Um-mm - I may not be the most knowledgeable about football, but I’m pretty sure intentional face-masking is a personal foul too?! But Barry and I were both all like “IN YOUR FACE!!” when Tennessee came up with the first down as if those extra yards didn’t matter a bit!! Yes, we do get a ‘tad bit’ emotional about our college football around here!
“In other sports related news…….” - it became official - Bill Callahan has been axed as Nebraska’s Head Coach. I guess the humbling interview after their last loss, with Bill saying how much he had enjoyed Nebraska and did not regret being here, made more sense after hearing TO’s (interim A.D. Tom Osbourne) comments. Seems Coach Callahan had been notified a month ago that a losing season meant losing his job. Defensive Coordinator Cosgrove needs to go too. You can’t win a ballgame with no defense - and Nebraska’s defense has been sliding downhill for the past four years. Yes, Offense has it’s share of mishaps too, but a good defense would not allow high scoring games to happen. This is only the second time in thirty-nine years Nebraska has had a losing season, with no hope of a Bowl….. and both of those years were under the leadership of Bill Callahan. This news was second only to A.D. Pedersen being let go by the University a few months ago! Can’t wait to see what happens here in Husker Territory! Let’s get through this time of recruiting and go from there.
So, tomorrow the polls will be out and we’ll see what’s up with OSU. They could definitely come out smelling better than just “Rose”s!!
Nice posting. I think Tennessee actually scored on the play following the presumed hypocritical personal foul call.
Go Vols!!!
Go Bucks!!!
Why, yes - I believe you are right! That’s what I get for waiting for more than 24 hours to post about an event!!
