Had an “unlaughable” day yesterday.  Nothing serious, just another of life’s bumps-in-the-road.  God, as usual, was not surprised by the events of the day, and – in His perfection – the events were handled. That said, I hope you will take 17 seconds to get a good “belly laugh”.  This is a video my fifteen-year-old [...]

The Grandchild

This little cutie-pie is Olivia, aka Livy. She is our eight-month-old granddaughter. This past Saturday we got to babysit while her folks went out for the evening. It was our first time to have opportunity to have Livy all to ourselves – and we were excited for it! Livy’s mom had told me that the [...]

When I was about 15 or so, I took a few guitar lessons.  I didn’t last very long – my fat, stubby fingers just did not stretch the bridge as necessary to hit the chords.  I liked it, even though I could never master it!  Add to that the fact I have not been trained [...]

With apologies upfront to my Michigander and Canadian friends and readers…. it is BUT COLD here in Wahoo, Nebraska.  It is -2, with a “feels like” of -13!  Now I know, I know – I lived in Detroit (okay, nobody lives IN Detroit – it was Troy and Royal Oak) and know the effect of [...]

Snow Day, and Other {Football} News

Posted: January 20, 2008 in Journaling

Woke up to snow this morning.  I had heard forecasts of snow all day, with accumulation.  The decision was made to not go out today – just in case.  We have been in the situation before where we were in Omaha and had no way to get back to Wahoo because the ONE way to [...]

My husband, Barry, and I were discussing our marriage.  Not so much our marriage, but how long our marriage will last.  Oh, not to worry… Barry and I are committed “until death us do part”.   Our recent conversation was about  marriage ending at death.  The Bible says (Matthew 22:30): 22:30 “For in the resurrection they neither [...]

I’m sure we can all think of situations in our lives where we have heard the word ‘love’ misused.  I’m sure we can even reach deep down and think of times we have misused the word ourselves. Love has gone much the same way as ‘awesome’ and ‘humility’ in our vocabulary.  We toss ‘love’ around as [...]

Forgiveness

I have a yellowed clipping hanging on my refrigerator.  I think it is from CCM Magazine, because on the back of it is a review of ‘The Great Adventure” by Steven Curtis Chapman.  That would make this clipping date back to 1992, and would also explain the yellowing! The section heading of this clipping reads  [...]

Both portions of Mom’s surgery went off without a hitch.  She is in recovery now and will move to ICU later to spend the night. Dr. Botha feels certain that there will be no need for additional chemotherapy.  That is an absolute praise to God! Again, I cannot thank you enough for all your prayers. [...]

The first portion of Mom’s surgery is done and went well.  The reversal took about 2 1/2 hours to be completed.  The liver specialist and his team have now taken over and expect to need about 2 to 2 1/2 hours for their part. Mom will go from recovery to ICU for observation.  That will [...]

Cancer Update On Mom

Posted: January 9, 2008 in Cancer Update, Family, Personal

My mother, Venus, is having surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30 am at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, NE.  They will be removing a “wedge” from her liver that contains a 1cm in diameter tumor.  This is a one of two tumors that metastasized from her colon.  The other was completely eliminated with chemotherapy.   Prior to the liver [...]

Been 2 Juno

Posted: January 8, 2008 in Juno, Movie review, Teen pregnancy

Today my daughter and I went to see the movie “Juno”.  I was a bit apprehensive about watching this movie with a fifteen-year-old – a “comedy” about teen pregnancy just doesn’t seem right.  However, better with me than without me, right? While this movie may not have made a loud social statement, I have to [...]

: ( Wrong Outcome to BCS!

Posted: January 7, 2008 in Football, Journaling

After waiting over a month, I am sad to report that The Ohio State University forgot to show up in New Orleans for the BCS Championship Game. The team bus must have missed the turn off to the Superdome, because neither the defensive, nor the Offensive team was there. I am sad beyond belief. Can [...]
