Daaaah, daaaah, dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah, dah-dah-dah, dah-dah-dah, dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah-dah - blink, blunk………………..
My husband and I are both fans of “old school tv”. My favorite is ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’, which ran from 1961 thru 1966 (five seasons). I can remember watching this show weekly on television with my family. I love the addition to the opening that included Dick either falling over the ottoman or “skirting” around it. Each week I tried to “guess” which he would do.
Who can forget ‘Washington -vs- The Bunny” where Rob has to choose between attending Richie’s play and a trip to Washington for The Alan Brady show? The dream sequence - with Rob dreaming he is Laura’s puppet and Mel Coolie cutting his strings with HUGE scissors - HILARIOUS! ::{”Daddy, you broke my arm!”}::

Remember when Danny Thomas guest stars as a walnut loving alien bent on taking away the sense of humor of the entire planet earth - not to mention all earthlings THUMBS - in Season Two’s “It May Look Like a Walnut!”? Or how about when Laura parts her hair in back and utters her famous line “I have perfect 20-20-20-20 vision.” to Rob. Oh, how I long for cable television so I can have TV-Land!
Oh! Oh! Oh! And how about the time Laura announced on National Television that Alan Brady was bald?? Here’s Alan, having a conversation with his toupes about the shame she has brought down on them.
Our family owns all five seasons of this wonderful show on DVD. It is what I watch almost nightly as I wind down at the end of the evening. I had watched seasons one through four about five times each before finally breaking down to buy season five.
Watching that last season was almost like living through the show going off the air again. I think out of all five seasons, this was the only one I had not seen all the episodes. All together, there were three episodes in Season Five (and the whole show, for that matter) I had not seen when originally aired. The other night, I watched the final episode of ‘The Dick Van Dyke’ show. It was a nostalgic moment.
So, I am heading upstairs to turn in for the night. The Orange Bowl is over (Kansas won) and I can pop in a DVD to fall asleep to. Hmmm - I think I’ll dig out the Season One box……
It will keep me going until disc 2 of Season One of ‘Here Comes The Brides’ gets here from Netflix!!
Have a great night.
R.
