The News From a 1:30 AM Phone Call is Rarely Ever Good, But God! ALWAYS is!

That Omnious, Late Night CallShort of the news of a new life coming into the world, I cannot think of much good that can come of the phone ringing at 1:30 in the morning.  This morning’s call was not about new life.

Our sons, Devon and Sean, and several of their friends had gone to World’s of Fun for the day.  Friend Eric was supposed to drive, but a check engine light changed plans, and the five guys all ended up piling into Devon’s car.

At 1:20 - about 25 miles outside of Council Bluffs, IA, the boys were hit by a deer.  They were travelling on I-29, so they were doing a fair clip when the deer - a baby - ran into the car, bounced, and landed on the hood of the car on the passenger side.  Both driver and passenger airbags deployed, leaving sore, coughing, and [in Devon's case] burned “front-seaters”.  The windshield is shattered, the front end is crushed, the radiator is cracked up bad…..  a total mess.  [Too dark for pictures]

The bottom line to the 50 mile tow [to the tune of $139], the totalled car and the 1:30 AM excitement is that God is good.  All five of the guys, although shaken up by the accident, are unhurt.  There was potential for some serious injuries.  Devon has a chest burn from the airbag chemicals, and I don’t think any of the guys will breath without coughing that stuff from their lungs for the next day or so - but it could have been much worse.

God has a plan for our lives.  I don’t understand His plan, but I thank Him that today’s plan included sparing my sons and their friends from harm.

Father, thank You for Your protection over Devon, Sean, Brian, Eric, and John this morning.  Thank You that these boys have had an opportunity to live in Your grace today.  Thank You for the conversations that have happened from this accident, and will happen.  Thank You for Your provision, as the guys will need another vehicle to get to and from work in.  I pray You will use this to draw these guys nearer to You.  I pray this in You Son’s precious name.  Amen.

Thank God for his protection. I’m thinking Devon is part cat and seems to be using up his nine lives. My prayer is that this will be used to draw the boys to the Lord.
